A Big Thank You to ,and also , for the use of their lovely stock. I called this painting Queen of the Jungle because as this lady sits there on her Throne, you would think that she is a distant and rather hard person to know, but the cat at her feet tells us she is soft inside and not as she first seems. Never judge a book by its cover, xxxxxxxxxxHugs Sandy
Being very short on time and thus rather casual with my DA account this past period, I was rather sloppy with keeping up to date with some of my favorite DA artists' work, but instead of digging around (lazy me), it's the new submissions that serve as a catalyst to make a retrospective to their works, kinda rediscovering them again, and sometimes even discovering some overlooked gems that become all time favorites ( in this case the Sanctuary [link] ).
The reason of this off-topic intro is to point out that I've had luck of following Sandy's work for some time (not claiming to be some connoisseur though) in a way that I could see her paintings gain more and more artist's individuality and spirit woven into them, and her sensual touch being redefined with every piece. And the sensuality of the artist's hand is unquestioned here, it's caressing the medium, making you feel it. The softness of the coloring adds to the warm effect of the piece, and sets my mind off to imagine the surroundings of the Queen's jungle court.
One thing missing here is the shadow of the whole figure on the floor, without which the whole composition seems to float in the air, an effect not desired here by my opinion, but that doesn't ruin the overall impression.
Perhaps not her best, but to me certainly one to stand rightfully beside my favorite of her works. Which one's? You figure it out
Vision (5) I feel that the artist succeeded in portraying her idea of a hard and distant queen with a kitty, hinting her soft and sensual side, as she explained in the comment.
Originality (5) Undoubted.
Technique (4) Not just because of the missing shadow, but because of the position of the palm and fingers (on the hand that strokes the cat), seems like pointing at the cat's rear paw, instead of stroking the cat. Could have been done better by my opinion (and judging by some other artist's works with hands I know she can do better).
Impact (4.5) Not as strong to strike me as some other Sandy's works did, but strong enough to resonate with me, and make me want to come back and see it again.
